smarter transportation Role Purpose The Controls Technician will be
responsible for operating, maintaining, troubleshooting, and
optimizing automated control systems, including PLCs, HMIs,
sensors, actuators, and other electrical and mechanical components.
This role requires technical expertise, problem-solving skills, and
the ability to work in a fast-paced environment to ensure the
seamless operation of our systems. Key Responsibilities Operate,
configure, and program control systems and equipment, including
wiring, sensors, and actuators. Ensure proper integration of
automation devices into existing systems. Perform routine
inspections, testing, and preventive maintenance on control
systems. Diagnose and repair electrical, mechanical, and
software-related issues in control systems. Monitor system
performance and recommend necessary adjustments or upgrades.
Program and modify PLCs (Programmable Logic Controllers) and HMIs
(Human-Machine Interfaces) to meet operational needs. Calibrate and
configure control devices such as temperature controllers, pressure
sensors, and other instrumentation. Troubleshoots infrastructure
equipment, systems and processes when required to ensure
uninterrupted customer supply. Works with Quality and Engineering
to document repairs/changes made to equipment and/or electrical
infrastructure. Identifies critical spare parts to have on-hand to
prevent extended downtime. Procures replacement equipment in
support of the facilities and promoting the innovation process.
Ability to troubleshoot to the component level. Work closely with
union trades, subcontractors and across all levels and
organizations. Self-starter and motivated to complete the task at
hand. Ability to multi-task. Works independently with minimal
supervision. Provides technical support to engineering team.
Working Conditions Work may involve industrial facilities,
factories, or construction sites. Requires standing, walking, and
occasional heavy lifting. May require travel or working on-call
shifts to address urgent issues. Adherence to plant safety
requirements, OSHA, NFPA and NEC guidelines as applicable. Safety
glasses, safety-toed shoes, hard hat, fire-retardant clothing,
hearing protection and clean room attire required in applicable
areas. Ability to climb ladders with equipment.
Experiences/Education - Required Associate degree, technical
certification, or equivalent experience in electrical/controls
engineering, automation, or a related field. 2 years of experience
in a Controls Technician or similar role in industrial automation
or building systems. Proficiency in PLC programming (e.g.,
Allen-Bradley, Siemens, Mitsubishi, etc.). Familiarity with SCADA
systems, HMIs, and industrial communication protocols (e.g.,
Modbus, Ethernet/IP, PROFIBUS). Strong knowledge of electrical
circuits, wiring diagrams, and mechanical systems. Skilled with
troubleshooting tools such as multimeters, oscilloscopes, and
signal generators. Experiences/Education - Desired AAS Electrical
Technology Experience with Building Automation Systems (BAS).
Certified Control Systems Technician (CCST) or equivalent. This
position does not support immigration sponsorship. The range for
this position is $48,844.00 - $67,161.00 assuming full time status.
Starting pay for the successful applicant is dependent on a variety
