Job Description:
Under the general supervision of the Director of Oncology
Clinical Medicine, the Oncology Clinical Coordinator Manager
provides collaborative leadership and operational oversight for the
oncology department’s patient referral and intake processes. This
position is dedicated to managing, mentoring, and supporting the
Clinical Coordinator team to ensure high-quality, efficient, and
patient-focused coordination for oncology referrals and admissions.
This role also acts as a Clinical Coordinator as needed, directly
supporting patient referrals and intake and the team during periods
of high demand or staff absence. The primary responsibility of this
role is to develop, implement, and sustain reliable, streamlined
processes for handling all patient referrals and intake requests.
The Manager is accountable for increasing the likelihood that
appropriate patients are able to receive timely treatment at St.
Jude by facilitating effective communication with referring
providers, ensuring accurate and thorough documentation of
recommendations, and coordinating all aspects of patient intake.
This role is critical in shaping the first impression and
experience for patients and families entering the oncology program.
The Oncology Clinical Coordinator Manager drives operational
excellence by identifying and addressing inefficiencies,
standardizing workflows, and leading continuous improvement
initiatives related to referral management. The Manager also
participates in departmental projects and fosters strong
multidisciplinary collaboration to support seamless transitions
from referral to intake. The Manager upholds organizational
standards, ensures regulatory compliance, and champions ongoing
professional development and quality improvement within the
referral and intake process. This role is essential to ensuring
that every patient referral is managed with the highest standard of
efficiency, clarity, and compassion. Job Responsibilities:
Accountable for promoting high quality patient care through
efficient and effective management of a defined area; Assure
quality, efficiency and safety of the unit. Lead the development of
unit-based patient care goals and standards for clinical nursing
practice; Responsible for oversight of physical environment.
Promote and restore patients' health by developing day-to-day
management of the patient care area; Identify the patient’s
age-specific need and provide age-appropriate care for all ages
served. Collaborate with physicians and multidisciplinary
professional staffs; providing physical and psychological support
for patients, friends, and families. Identify patient service
requirements by establishing personal rapport and providing a
compassionate environment with potential and actual patients or
other persons in a position to understand service requirements.
Responsible for assuring that the unit is in compliance with
regulatory standards; Utilize appropriate resources to identify and
ensure these standards. Maintain nursing operations by initiating,
coordinating, and enforcing program, operational, and personnel
policies and procedures, including adherence to local, state and
federal licensure requirements of a healthcare organization. Assure
quality of care by developing and interpreting hospital and nursing
division's philosophies and standards of care; Make or recommend
adjustments. Enforce adherence to state board of nursing and state
nurse practice act requirements and to other governing agency
regulations; Measure health outcomes against standards. Complete
patient care requirements by scheduling and assigning nursing care
team staff and following up on work results. Responsible for
oversight of physical environment. Interacts with Environmental
Services, Facilities Operations and Infection Control to resolve
issues promptly and effectively. Work closely with security
personnel as appropriate to provide for safety of patients and
staff. Provide unit representation to other disciplines/departments
and promotes interdisciplinary collaboration. Serve on ad hoc
committees/ projects; Attend interdepartmental and
interdisciplinary meetings for information sharing. Facilitate
resolution of interdepartmental conflict; Promote and provide
oversight for Continuous Quality Improvement projects. Contribute
to educational and public relations mission of St. Jude;
Participate in patient care conferences and staff development.
Interpret patient classification/ acuity data and utilize this data
to manage resources and establish staffing patterns for the unit.
Comply and interpret unit-based data (i.e., patient acuity/
classification, patient satisfaction, quality improvement) that
serves as a basis for quality improvement activities. Participate
in the hiring process, budget creation and management and setting
goals and vision for the team, accounting for unit quality,
efficiency, and safety. Mentor and guide team members and ensure
they have all the resources required, to complete their assigned
tasks. Perform other duties as assigned to meet the goals and
objectives of the department and institution. Maintains regular and
predictable attendance. Minimum Education and/or Training: Master’s
degree in nursing or related field required. If the Bachelor's is
not in Nursing, then Master's must be in Nursing. Basic Life
Support (BLS), required. Pediatric Advance Life Support (PALS), or
Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS), preferred. Minimum
Experience: Minimum requirement: 3 years of nursing/ clinical
experience of which 1 years should be supervisory experience in a
clinical setting. Pediatric Oncology experience, preferred.
Involvement in clinical research, preferred. Specialty course for
clinical area completed or demonstrated knowledge. Knowledge of
standard nursing equipment. Demonstrate knowledge and skills
necessary to provide care appropriate to any age-related needs of
the patients served on the assigned unit. Knowledge of the
principles of growth and development for all ages served.
Demonstrated ability to assess and interpret age specific data
about the patient’s status. Experience managing teams; Experience
leading projects/ processes end-to-end and collaborating with
cross-functional teams. Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite (e.g.,
Outlook, Word, PowerPoint, Excel) and other computer applications.
Proven performance in earlier role. Licensure, Registration and/or
Certification Required by Law: (LC: RN-TN) Must possess a current
Tennessee State Board of Nursing license if primary residence is
Tennessee or a Nurse Licensure non-Compact state. (LC: RN-MISS,
RN-ARK, RN-KY) Must possess a current State Board of Nursing
license in the state of primary residence if the state is a Nurse
Licensure Compact state. Licensure, Registration and/or
Certification Required by SJCRH Only: One of the following
certifications required: Certified Nurse Manager and Leader (CNML)
from the American Organizational for Nursing Leadership (AONL)
Nurse Executive Certification (NE-BC) Nurse Executive Advanced
Certification (NEA-BC) from the American Nurses Credentialing
Association (ANCC) Nursing Professional Development (NPD-BC)
Certification from the Association for Professional Nursing
Development (APND) Compensation In recognition of certain U.S.

reasonable estimate of the compensation range for this role. This
is an estimate offered in good faith and a specific salary offer
takes into account factors that are considered in making
compensation decisions including but not limited to skill sets,
experience and training, licensure and certifications, and other
business and organizational needs. It is not typical for an
individual to be hired at or near the top of the salary range and
compensation decisions are dependent on the facts and circumstances
of each case. A reasonable estimate of the current salary range is
$104,000 - $186,160 per year for the role of Oncology Clinical
